EAST CHRISTCHURCH SCHOOLS ENTERTAINMENT.

The Tuam street hall was filled' last evening on the occasion of the East Christchurch schools prize fund entertainment, given by scholars of the Gloucester street, Phillipstown and South belt schools* The progrmma was a particularly pleasing one, and included some pretty and effective tableaux, some of tho scholars of the Phillipstown school sustaining the characters in one comprehensive scene and the South belt school children taking part in a series illustrating the “ Sleeping Beauty.” Musical drill by Standard 111. children was gone through excellently, and reflected great credit upon those who had trained the little ones. A maypole dance and song went very pleasingly. The first part included a " Chinege lantern ” song by the infant school, very prettily given, and a Highland fling by Master M’Tavish, danced with great spirit and precision. Tho second part consisted of a fairy opera, entitled Goodluck and BadlucJc , in which Miss A. Lilly and Masters Aherne, Northey, Brightling, Gunn, Hulberb, John Northey and Taylor took the principal parts and well sustained them. The opera was in two acts, with a fairy plot, and contained some pretty songs and choruses, which were all excellently rendered. Princess Goodluck (Mias Lilly), Badluek (Master Aherne) and the King (Master James Northey), wore good in the several solos allotted to them. The audience was genuinely pleased- with the performance, and liberally applauded the small but clever performers. The limelight effects supplied by Mr T. Crook greatly added to the completeness of the entertainment. Owing to the fact that many could not gain admittance to the hall last evening, the performance will be repeated tonight. ________________
