TO THU EDITOR, j: Sir, —Some of your c- rrespondents are the closing tf shops tho whole ;cf Saturday, and state that the business could be done in five days, I quite agree with the latter, and would go further and ?ay that at present the retail trade of Christchurch could be done in four, or even I three days, and unless it inerfases and iproflcs improve there will shortly be no ■(necessity to legislate for shop assistants, Jas shop assistants will not ba required, or Stool yat greatly reduced salariei.—l am, fee,. I write to say i-fthat I am in full accord with the above knowing how little business iis doae on Saturday morning at present, land when we close at 1 p.m. there will bo limuch less, as fewer people will come to ftown, and the forenoon will bo in a great f measure lost. So, everything considered, j I believe this would be the most r-atis-ifactory way to settle a difficult question. ’ Then I think both shopkeepers and ; assistants would ba agreed on the matter.
