STANMORE ROAD.

TO THCJ EDITOR. Sin —la perusing th? report of the proceedings of the City Council at its meeting ou Monday night, I had hoped that the condition of the ittutmore road from Templer'a gate t.i liasbe’s corner would have been doomed worthy of coasidoiution by our City Fathers. Such appears not to ba their opinion, however. Will you kindly allow me to c:-.U attention to what, by this time, has become a public scandal, ■tend-exceediagly dangerous to the health of the inhabitants of Richmond? The Stan more read has been lowered in the middle, oil approaches being higher than it. All stormwater and drainage have combined to make the road all but impassable. The end near the bridge, which should bo lower to allow the water to get away, has been left at least one foot or more higher than the other parts of the road. The footpaths, also have been left unfinished to the danger of foot-passengers for the last three weeks, but owing to the ssndv nntura of the soil these are fairly dry." One of our neighbours who keeps

cows drives thorn every day to the fields, and even 'lie cows prefer the footpath to the puddle of a road. An officer of the peace is supposed to have rein ‘iked to a resident that it would bo a pity to lay an information against this party, as the road is really too bad for cows to go on. And so the children and people can go on the road, or wbat used to bo a road, but is now a quagmire, to allow the cows to pass. Next Mot day the Richmond School will reopen after the measles me supposed to bo over, and children only half convalescent will be sent along, and as they cannot cross the road without getting wet feet, it. is an open question if their parents will not be justified in keeping thorn at home until this state of things is alterel, and I for one sincerely hope it will he attended to at once.—l am, <fcc„ STANMORE.
