The Waikato river ia now as high as during the January flood, and is still rising. The railway traffic is interrupted. The up train only got to Mercer, the line from Pokeno to Mercer being partly under .water. The down train got to Ohinewui, where it was stopped by the platelayers acd ordered back to Huntley, and thence to Waikato, returning the passengers to their homes. The line is reported to be in a dangerous state at Eureka swamp, eight miles from Fraakton Junction. Serious damago is threatened near the Oxford protective works. In tho King Country the North Island trunk line shows signs of giving way. WELLINGTON, Augqst 4.

A block on the Manawatu liae has been caused by part of the approach to the bridge over the Waikawa stream being carried away. A slip also occurred at I’aikakariki, A train was sent up to bring passengers from this side of tho gap, and arrived this afternoon.
