FLOODS.
PPeb Pbess Association.} AUCKLAND, August 2,
The Waikato river is heavily in flood, and at Taupiri ia within three feet of the flood of 1875, and still rising. At Eangiriri boats are used to go from the township to the railway station. The early passenger train from Waikato yesterday, just north of Taupiri, passed safely over a slip in the embankment, which had just commenced to give way, but fortunately held up to carry the, train over. A goods train following was stuck up. Mr Coom, E.E., happened to ha in the train, and superintended the repairs to the break. Heavy damage has been done to the roads and drains all over the district. The creeks are flooded and bridges are reported damaged. It is feared that another very heavy fall of rain will do great damage.
