WAIMATE.

At the fortnightly meeting of the Waimate Dsbating Club, on Tuesday, there was a debate on the Direct Veto Bill, and from the great interest taken in this subject the meeting was unusually large. The affirmative of the proposition was taken by Mr G, Dash as leader. Dr Barclay had been named ae leader ia the negative, but in his unavoidable absence at opening time his place was taken by Mr Hamilton. The supporters of the affirmative were Messrs Graham, Gumming, Bannerman, Smyth (Chairman) and the Rev J. Kelly; supporter of the negative, Mr Thompson. Mr Smyth, President of the Club, occupied the chair. Oa a vote being called for, a very large majority voted in favour of the affirmative.

A meeting of the Committee of the Social Club was held oa Tuesday evening, when it waa decided to hold the first popular concert in the Library Hall on Friday evening.
