ASHBURTON AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL ASSOCIATION.
The annual general meeting of the Ashburton Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held at Ashburton yesterday. The President, Mr R. Friedlander, occupied the chair.
The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £43 6.3 9d, and the report showed that the Association was in a very prosperous condition, the prize money paid at the last show being tho largest ever paid by the Association, amounting to £362 la fid aa against £337 la in tho previous year. The Chairman, in moving the adoption of tha report and balance-sheet, said it was very satisfactory ia these bad times to be able to show a credit balance, and he was glad to report that the affairs of the Association were in a thoroughly prosperous condition. It had been a great pleasure to him to preside over the affairs of the Society during the past year, and he hoped that it would go on and increase in size and usefulness.
Mr D. Thomas, ia seconding the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, said that if they went on as they were going they would soon be the premier Society in tho Colony. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The election of officers was then proceeded with, and resulted as follows Preeident, Mr Donald Williamson ; VicePresidents, Messrs W. M. Lyttelton, F. S, Peter and E. Gates; Committee, Messrs Small, Shearer, Stringfellow, Bonifanfc, Reid, M’Kendry, Coskerie, Stitt, Sargent, Jameson, Alksgtm, Gilmour, Williami', R. Friedlander, M. Friedlander, H. Friedlander, Millar, Grigg, M’Farlane, Redmayne, Cookaon, M’Cafferty, Bruce aud D. M’Kendry; Treasurer, Mr B. Friedlander ; Auditor, Mr J. C. Duncan. The appointment of a Secretary was left in the hands of the Committee. Messrs E. Millar, M. Stitt, C. Reid, D. M’Kendry, P. Williams, J. Small and J. Shearer were appointed a Committee to manage the horse parade. The date of the parade was left in the hands of the Committee.
It was decided by a large majority to hold a one day's show this year aa usual, the data to be Friday, Nov. 3. A vote of thanks to tho retiring President, Vice-presidents and Committeemen waa carried by acclamation.
Mr J. C. Duncan, on behalf of the Trotting Club, asked the Association to assist ia maintaining a trotting track on the Show Ground, and a Committee waa appointed to enquire into the'matter and report. On the motion of Mr David Thomas, a very hearty vote of thanks with a donation of ten guineas was given to Mr Quane for hia valuable services as Secretary.
A vote of thanks to the Chairman concluded tha proceedinga.
