The match between tha Australians and the combined Universities’ team began to-day. The combined eleven waa composed of Raajitsmhji, Hornsby, Ladley, Arkwright, Forster, Gay, Roe, C. W. Wright, Bainbridge, G. Wilson and Berkley. Blackham, M’Leod and Coningbam are not playing. The Australians were the first to bat, and have one wicket down for 109 runs. Lyons made 51. At the cricket match, combined Universities and Australians, the attendance was only moderate. The weather waa fine, and the wicket in good condition. The Australians have lost four wickets for 346 runs. Bannerman is not out with 102. George Gillen made 43, Trott 61, and Graham is still in with 61 to his credit. Gifficn played a grand innings, without giving a chance. Trotb punished all the bowling, and made many boundary hits. Bannerman was at tha wickets for four hours before tha century was registered against his name. He gave eight chances altogether. August 1. The Duke of Connaught enter tained both the cricket teams (Surrey and Australians) at lunch, and ordered a special escort for them during their inspection of the dockyard.
