THE NEW SOUTH WALES ELECTORAL BILL. / SYDNEY, March 24./ The Legislative Assembly has declined to accept the amendment made in tha Electoral Bill by tha Legislative Council. A DISMAL OUTLOOK. MELBOURNE, March 24. In the Legislative Assembly, the Cclonial Treasurer, in the course of a speech, regretted that the Colony’s principal productions, wool and wheat, were now realising such low prices, and he said that unless everything else were reduced in proportion, it would not pay to grow either wool or wheat here. EXTENSIVE RETRENCHMENT. The Minister for Education has decided on the dismissal of 250 teachers who are in charge of unclassified schools; and a reduction in teachers’ salaries of from five to twelve and a half per cent has also been determined upon. Reductions of a similar amount in the salaries of all civil servants are also to be made. Generally speaking, all salaries over £6OO are subject to the 121 per cent reduction. These reductions are part of an extensive scheme of retrenchment which the Government haa decided to carry out in all branches of the public service. THE BANK FRAUDS. Tha other two Directors of tho AngloAustralian Bank who were found guilty of fraud were sentenced to-day. Robert W. Dilly received a sentence of two years’ imprisonment, and Sydney G. A llweight was ordered to pay a fine of £IOO.
