RIFLE SHOOTING.
TO THE SDI COR. Sir,— ln reply to •' Snider” in Tuesday's issue, permit me to show how the Raiapoi Rifles may claim to be the premier shooting Company. la the volley and independent firing, their score was 1694 points, which, divided by 54 men who actually fired, produces an average of 31‘87 points per man. The score of the Christchurch Rifles was 1176, which, divided by 37 men who actually fired, produces an average of SO’lo per man, or I*l3 points in favour of each member of tbe former Company, Tue Kaiapoi corps also takes thirteen marksmen's badges for olaa^
firing—which is a number beyond any other Company in the district. From all entitled to such badges in the North Canterbury district. Private E. Fantham, of the Kaiapoi Company, has been declared winner of the district championship medal. A Company may have won two matches from the Kaiapoi Company, but it remains to be seen what the total result of matches will be at the end of the year just commencing. A chapter of accidents prevented the match last Saturday, but " Snider ” is wide of the mark in insinuating there is any desire to put off matches, as the members of the Kaiapoi Eiflea are only too eager to promote a friendly rivals#. —I am, &0., - M MEDIUM SNIDEm
