On Tuesday evening Mr W. Chambers, farmer, of Fernside, met with a serious accident when on his way home from Rangiora. He was driving a dray loaded with seventeen sacks of flour, and when opposite Melford one of his horses plunged forward, cauoing him to fall from his seat on the top of the load to the road in front of the dray, one of the wheels of which passed over his right leg, badly breaking and crushing it both above and below the knee. Dis Clayton and Voleknaann rendered surgical aid, bat it is doabtfal whether they to save theiimb.
