A Committee meeting of this Club was held on Monday at Lascelles’ Crown Hotel, Amberley. There was a large attendance, and in the absence of Mr P. Courage, Mr Duncan Rutherford, Vice-President, took the chair. It was resolved that' Mr Robert Parsons’ terms for hunting the hounds for the ensuing season be accepted, subject to alteration in seme minor details. Mr W. Parsons was appointed huntsman, and it was decided to ask Mr Starkey, on his arrival from the Old Country, to accept the position of master. It was resolved to open the hunting season early in April. NORTH CANTERBURY STEEPLECHASE CLUB. The annuel meeting of members was held at the Crown Hotel, Amberley, last Monday. There was a good attendance, Mr F. Courage, of Seadown, in the chair. The Secretary, Mr W. Potts, read the report for the past season, and presented the statement of accounts, showing a balance in hand of £6 Is 9d. After some considerable discussion it was moved by Mr Duncan Rutherford,, seconded by Mr G. D. Greenwood, and carried—" That in consequence of the difficulty experienced in getting sufficient support, and of the lack of interest taken in the welfare of the Club, it he wound up.” A vote of thanks was unanimously passed to Mr F. Courage for the use of his grounds and for. the good sport enjoyed in years past through his generosity. Itwas also resolved that the cash balance in hand should be given over to the Treasurer of the first horse-jumping races started in the district, the opinion of those present being that there was every probability of a steeplechase meeting being held under the management of the Brackenfield Hunt Club, CANTERBURY TROTTING CLUB. . The Canterbury Trotting Club will hold a second autumn meeting on May 6, when the sum of 305 sovs will be given away in stakes. The following are the various events : —Handicap Class Trot (in saddle), of 60 sovs; two milss. Handicap Class Trot (in saddle), of 60 sovs j two miles. Sires’ Stakes Trot, of 45 sovs; two miles. Handicap Maiden Trot (in harness), of 30 sovs; two miles. Handicap Pony Trot (in saddle), of 20 sovs; two miles. The time limit for the class trots is 6min lOsec. With regard to handicapping for the meeting, the Club has adopted a new idea. The Handicapping Committee will make one set of handicaps, and two outside handicappers one apiece. These will be labelled 1,2, 3, and the nominators will be requested to vote by ballot as to which they prefer. The set of handicaps which secures the majority of the votes will be used for the meeting. Acceptances for the Dunedin Amateur Trotting Club’s Autumn Meeeing close today. Mr G. G. Stead’s Lebel was shipped north by the steamer Te Anau, which left Lyttelton yesterday. The racehorses Thame, Swordbelt and Kent and two polo ponies were landed out of the steamer Wairarapa from the north yesterday morning.
