Eofcert Stewart, farmer, Waitaki North, was thrown from bis buggy yesterday, and dragged some distance, fia is now lying unconscious. The deceased was one of the early settlers and had held several public positions, among them that of a member of the Nelson Provincial Council, and he once unsuccessfully contested an election for the JSuperiutendency of that Province. Yesterday morning Mr and Mrs M'Aleer, of Gust, were driving to the Bsngiora market, and when near the borough their horse became unmanageable and turned tbe, trap over into the ditch beside the Oxford railway line. Mr M’Alesr escaped unhurt, but Ins ’wife was much bruised and shaken, although not seriously injured. Uhe was taken to the Plough Hotel, where she received every attention. The trap was considerably damaged.
