D, Conolly, United States Consul, sails for America on March 25, on leave of absence, bub it is probable that he will not return, owing to a prospect of his being promoted to a high post. Mr Baoheller, Vice-Consul, temporarily fills tho vacancy. The citizens of Auckland are preparing an address for presentation to the retiring officer. WELLINGTON, Maeoh 14. The Ilutfc County Council r.e-day discussed a circular from the Auckland Native Land Law Reform League, and carried a resolution affirming the necessity for the enactment, at the nest session of Parliament, of an effective measure of reform of tho Native land laws, and simplicity and economy of procedure in connection therewith. At an inquest to-day ou the body of a married woman named Bridget E. Moor, a verdict that death was the result ol alcoholic poisoning was returned. This is tho second verdict of a similar nature within a fortnight. DUNEDIN, March 14. Miss Shaw, travelling correspondent of the London Times,, is ut present in Dunedin, having arrived by the Manapouri. She did intend making rather a lengthened visit, but has received advices which necessitate her leaving for Canada by the next San Francisco mail. She leaves for tho north to-morrow, and on Sunday reaches Wellington, where she hopes to meet some of the Colony’s political leaders. Intimation has been received tnat Dr W. L.
