CHARGES AGAINST A CENSUS OFFICIAL.

[Per Press Association.! AUCKLAND, Jan. 23. The enquiry into the charges against John King was resumed to-day. Mr Pascoe, re-called, said that when appointed as a sub-enumerator he was asked by King to insure in the Government office, which he did for .2200. He paid tho premium into the office, not to King. John King wave further evidence to the effect that he did nob benefit from moneys advanced by outside persons on sub - enumerator vouchers, neither did tbe firm of King and Whowell. He considered the remuneration paid to census enumerators totally inadequate. Dr Giles declared the Commission closed, and referred to the peculiar position in which ho had been placed by there having been no appearance to support the charges.
