[Pbb Press Association.! NEW PLYMOUTH, Jan. 23. The schooner Croydon Lass is still partially embedded in the sand on the South Suit in the Waitara river. At low water ■he is high and dry, but at high tide the ■ea surrounds her. The vessel is owned by .Mr Abbott of Collingwood, who is expected by to-morrow’s steamer. She was repaired, at a cost of .£350, just previous to this trip. AUCKLAND, Jan. 33. The Waikato floods are subsiding. At a meeting of the Committee of the Auckland Yacht Club to-day, the question of the amateur status, in connection with the yacht race at the annual regatta was discussed. It was decided that the Committee should adhere to the rule regarding the definition of amateurs, as passed by the Club in March last, which is to the effect that an amateur is one who has received no remuneration for his services as mariner on board any vessel, fishing boat or yacht ■ailed in regatta races. The report that Mr R. L. Stevenson, the novelist, is dying, is discredited here, as later news from Samoa than could have reached England has been received in Auckland. By these advices Mr Stevenson was in his usual health. PALMEESTON NOETH, Jan. 23. The putting the weight record of 38ft 9in established by D.
