OBITUARY.
WELLINGTON, Jan. 9. Mr John Blackett, C.E., who was Bngi-neer-in-Chief for the Colony from 1884 until 1890, when he went to London as Consulting and Inspecting Engineer for the Oniony, died here yesterday. He arrived from England only four weeks ago. His health had been bad for some time bef ore his leaving, and caused his return. He was among the earliest settlers in Taranaki, where he arrived in 1851, but some si?: years later he removed to Nelson, where he carried out important engineering works. He leaves a widow, a eon and two daughters.
