During the afternoon several presentations were made by the schplars to certain of their teachers. The most prominent was that made in the boys’ department to Mr Wilson, the head master, who is vacating his position. After the presentation of prizes, Mr Saunders remarked that there was one present who, although older than those who usually received prizes, the boys had decided was to have a prize. Ho referred to their head master. Ha was sure that it would be a pleasure to them to express the opinion they held of one who had superintended their education so satisfactorily to them for some years past. Ho (Mr Saunders) bed therefore much pleasure in seeing them present a testimonial to their teacher. (Loud apulause.) Master Herbert Collier then read the following address ” Dear Mr Wilson, —On behalf of tha boys of Standards IV., V. and VL, I beg to present you with these token's of our respect for you. On hearing that you were about to leave us, we felt we could not allow you to depart from She school, where we have spent so many years under your guidance, without some object whereby you may keep green in your memory the boys of our standards, who will ever bear nothing but pleasant remembrances of yourself, and your kindly manner of treating ua. But we wish you to understand that these small presents, tb ough chosen by us to represent our feelings towards you, aro yet no real standard by which you can measure our affection; for that can be measured by no present, however valuable it may be. During tha period wo have been under your care we have always felt that you have taken the closest interest in pur welfare, not only in that of the classes as a whole, bub in that of every particular member of it; and, lot us add, we trust that, aa we shall ever wish you welfare and success, so you, who in tha past have shown the great interest you tnka in every one of us, will, in the future, still continue to watch our progress; and we feel sure that, both with the encouragement and training you have given ua and your good wishes for our future success, we shall go forth to the battle of life well girded and armed against all its perils and its danger?.” Master Joseph Seatree, on behalf of the fifth and sixth standards, handed Mr Wilson a handsome silver inkstand, suitably inscribed, and Master L. Caro, on behalf of the fourth standard, presented him with a silver pencil case. Mr Wilson, who was enthusiastically cheered on coming forward to reply, said that the presentation was the more gratifying to him because it had been made by those who had been under his care ever sinco they had entered tha department. He did not think that there was, on the forms before him, a single boy who had been there when he came to the school. Ho must thank them very heartily, and must return them all the kind wishes they had expressed towards him. So far as ha could tell, it was not his intention to leave Christchurch, and bo ho hoped that he would not altogether loss sight of them, and ha hoped also that they would be happy and prosperous. Mr Wilson was again heartily cheered by tha boys at the conclusion of his speech. Some very pleasing presentations were made in the girls’ department. Miss Kitchingmau, tha head mistress, received a work basket from the pupils of the uppar fourth standard, and some handsome pieces of china from other girls. Miss Baldwin was presented with a very handsome jelly dish by Miss Trixie de Veaux.on behalf of the girls of the seventh standard, and those of the fifth and sixth standards presented her with a short address, road by Miss Estelle Carp, expressing their appreciation of her kindness towards them, and with a silver eggstand, handed to her by Miss Alice Mussen. Miaa Meadows, teScher of the third standard, was presented with a workbaakst by the girls of her class. SYDENHAM.
