PRESENTATIONS.

At St Andrew’s Church on Friday evening, instead of the usual choir practice the choir and Sunday school teachers connected with the church assembled to congratulate Miss Pirie and Mr H. de Mans, members of the choir, upon their approaching marriage. The chair was occupied by the Rev Gordon Webster, and after some musical items had been rendered, Mr A. Corrick, choirmaster, presented Miss Pirie and Mr de Mans with a very handsome marble clock. Mr E. Nairn, on behalf of the Sunday school teachers, presented Miss Pirie with a silver cruet stand and ladies’ hand-bag. Mr de Mans briefly returned thanks. Refreshments were provided by Mrs Webster, and the remainder of the evening was spent in a social manner. Yesterday afternoon Mr de Maus was presented with a very handsome carriage clock, which bore the following inscription : "To H, A. J. de Maus, from Lyttelton Times Company, Limited, Nov. 9, 1892.” Mr F. de C. Malet made the presentation. Later in the afternoon Mr J. C. Wilkin, on behalf of the employees of the Lyttelton Times Company, presented Mr de Maus with a purse of sovereigns. There was a large gathering of members of the Lancaster Park Cricket Club at the Clarendon Hotel last night, when Messrs H. de Mans and W. Cooke were the recipients of presents on the occasion of their approaching marriages. The President (Mr W. Devenish Meares) occupied the chair. The Chairman, in proposing the health of the guests of the evening, said that all the members of the Club recognised the sterling qualities of Messrs De Mans and Cooke as cricketers. Both bad represented Canterbury in interprovincial matches. He had tried to secure for Mr De Maus a place in the next Australian Eleven which journeyed to England—(applause)—and it was only when he heard that Mr De Maus intended joining the ranks of the benedicts that be gave up the idea. He then presented Mr De Maus with a purse of sovereigns, and Mr Cooke with a very handsome silver epergne, as a token of the esteem in which they are held by their fellow Club mates. Both the recipients suitably returned thanks. Songs were sung by Messrs A. Cant, C. H. Ridley, H. de Maus, T. R, Cress well and P. Schwabacher. Mr F. Wilding contributed an excellent recitation. and Mr B. J. Pegg a bone solo. Yesterday afternoon Mr F. B. Dennis, who has been Manager of the Stonehnrat estate for twenty-three years, and is about to enter upon farming on bis own account, was the recipient of a handsome watchchain, which was presented to him by Mr W. B. Daly, on behalf of the employees on the station. On Sunday morning, at the Ashburton Catholic Church, after the eleven o’clock mass, the Rev Father Chastagnon, who is leaving the district, was presented by his congregation with a beautifully illuminated address and a purse of sovereigns. At the Kaiapoi Clothing Factory, during the interval for lunch, on Wednesday, about three hundred of the operatives met for the purpose of presenting Miss Maggie Pleasauce with a token of their good wishes. The presentation, which took the form of a complete dinner service, silver cruet and glass ware, was made by Mr Tattersall.
