TEE PICTURESQUE ATLAS.
[Peb Pbkss Association.] AUCKLAND, Mat 14. The Papsjcura K.M. Court was occupied for four'days .with the Picturesque Atlas case, Bowerman Bros v. Sutherland, which was the first of seven cases in that district. Mr Jackson gave judgment, under the equity and good conscience clause of the Resident Magistrate's Act, 1867, and said the Court was of opinion that Sutherland had been misled by the canvasser when induced to sign his name to the contract for ‘ forty-two parts of the Atlas. The Court believed that the defendant never intended to make a contract at all. The canvasser purposely misled the defendant, and it was clear from the evidence that there had been misrepresentation on the part of the canvasser. Judgment with costs was given for the defendant. This decision, binds a similar case against Hyde; these and five other persons swearing that their signature was obtained on the pretext that-it was to supply their postal address. Six out of seven denied that they saw any printed matter on the document they signed.
