MEETING OF THE COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Committee of the Canterbury Rugby .Union was held at Warner’s Hotel yesterday evening; present —Messrs George Mason (Chairman), T. W. Reese, P. Evans, T. R. Cresswell, G. Harris, and T, S. Marshall (Hon. See.). A letter was read from the Secretary of the Canterbury Cricket and Athletic Sports Ground Company, agreeing to the terms specified.by the Union. The Linwood Football Club wrote objecting to a member of the East Christchurch football team playing against Poneke, stating that the player referred to had not paid his subscription to the-Linwood Club. It was decided to uphold the objection. The Sydenham, Football Club wrote agreeing to the terms offered by the Union in regard to the ; rental" of the Old Show Grounds for Club matches. . The Otago Rugby Union wrote stating tuat'the.establishment of the New Zealand Rugby Union would be of no especial benefit' to football in the South .Island, and that it had decided not to support the proposal. The letter stated that the Otago Union would send a delegate to oppose the formation of the New Zealand Union. The South Canterbury Union wrote stating that it was in favour of the establishment of the New Zealand Union. The Southland Union stated that it was not prepared at present to fall in with the proposal. Mr Harris moved—" That in the opinion of this Committee the formation of a New Zealand Rugby Union is both undesirable and unnecessary.” The motion was carried unanimously. The question ot sending a delegate to the meeting shortly to be held was then discussed, Mr Marshall ultimately moving—" That Mr Harris represent the Canterbury. Rugby Union at the conference at Wellington on April 22.” Mr Cresswell seconded the motion, which was carried. The Taranaki Rugby Union wrote asking under -what conditions the Canterbury Union would support a visit from a Taranaki representative team. Mr Cresswell inoyedr- t ‘.That Mr Harris be instructed to" make .arrangements with the Taranaki Rugby Union in reference to the proposed trip.” The motion was carried unanimously. On the motion of Mr Evans, it was decided that the Junior Flag match between Rangiora and Kaiapoi should be played at Kaiapoi. - v 'lt was also decided that the match between the Lyttelton second fifteen and Sydenham third fifteen should be played at Lyttelton on July 3. It was agreed to effect some improvements to the Sydenham ground for the accommodation of spectators. It was resolved to get an estimate for a temporary grand stand at Lancaster Park. The rules for the guidance of the President’s Cup competition were read and adopted. The following were appointed a Postponement Committee, with power to transfer matches from one ground to another: —Messrs Cresswell, Marshall and Evans. . Kaiapoi, at Old Show Grounds; Merivale ▼. .East Christchurch, at Lancaster Park; Christchurch a bye. May 14: Linwood v. Christchurch, at Lancaster Park; Canterbury College v. Sydenham, at Lancaster Park; Kaiapoi v. East Christchurch, at Kaiapoi; Merivale a bye. May 21; Christchurch v. Merivale, at Lancaster Park; Linwood v. East Christchurch, at Lancaster Park; Canterbury College v. Kaiapoi, at Old Show Grounds; Sydenham a bye. May 2S: Merivale v. Canterbury College, at Old Show Grounds; Linwood v. Sydenham, at Lancaster Park; Kaiapoi v. Christchurch, at Kaiapoi; EastChristohurch a bye. June 4: Merivale v. Linwood, at Lancaster Park; Sydenham v. The annual report of the Auckland Rugby Union shows a sum of .£275 Ss 2d to credit. Mr A. E. Devore has been reelected President. DUNEDIN, Apbil 13. The annual meeting of the Rugby Football Union was held to-night, when Mr J. Allen was re-slected President, and Messrs F. T. Horne and J. H. Chapman Hon Secretary and Treasurer respectively. It was decided to vote twenty guineas to the funds of the Technical Classes Aseocition. A motion to recognise premiership was only supported by the two delegates of the Taieri Club. The only reference to the proposed New Zealand Union was contained in the Chairman’s speech, and he only remarked that the old Committee had not seen its way to fall in with the proposed constitution.
