PRESBYTERIAN ASSEMBLY.
[Pee Pbbss Association.] AUCKLAND, Feb. 10. The Presbyterian Assembly granted applications for the admission of the Eevs Caider, M'Donald, Whyte and Eosi. A Committee was appointed to consider the possibility of sending the Moderator as a delegate to the Pan-Presbyterian Conference at Toronto. A resolution of sympathy and condolence with the family and congregation of the late C. H. Spurgeon was passed unanimously. It was decided not to alter the time of the Assembly ingThe Presbyterian General Assembly today, on the motion of the Eov J. Treadwell, appointed a Committee to draw up a minute expressing the esteem entertained by the Assembly for the late Eav C. H. Spurgeon, and the sense that great loss had, by his death, befallen the Church. An application t 6 retain the name of the Eev P. Caider, Nelson, upon the roll of the Presbytery as that of a retired minister was agreed to. An application from the Presbytery of Wanganui for the re-admis-sion of the Eev T. M‘Donald was granted, and the Assembly also granted a request from Timaru to receive the Eevs J. Whyte and D. Boss. The Temperance Committee, in its report, expressed the conviction that prohibition was fast coming within ths range of practical politics, and urged that the agitation should not be allowed to cease until the people obtained the sole and complete power of local option at the baliot-box. A long report from the Committee that has been considering the state of religion and morals, was adopted. The report hoped that measures would be adopted by the Government to repress the gambling evil, lamented the prevalence of Sabbath desecration, and in regard to the drifting of young men from the churches stated that tbe facts did not hear out the strong reports made on this matter, for whilst there might be a considerable amount,of carelessness amongst young men, there was not much conscientious infidelity.
