The Invercargill-owned brigantine Circe arrived at Sydney the other day from her port of registry, after having met with a very stormy passage across. A fierce southerly ■ gale was encountered, during which a sea broke on hoard and smashed tiie deok.houae and wheel, and swept away a portion of the bulwarks. About eight thousand feet of timber, a portion of the deck load, was also swept overboard. The Southern Ocean, and more particularly in the vicinity of Cape Leeuwin, is keeping up its reputation as a stormy locality. It ia almost the common experience of ship-masters during the winter months to meet with dirty weather while on the voyage to Australia and New Zealend, and from the reports of recent arrivals at Sydpey and Melbourne, it would appear that recently the weather has been exceptionally bad.
