MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS.

|: CHRISTCHURCH. £ The following candidates have been dominated to fill the ordinary vacancies on ;thc Christchurch City Council ; North-west Ward—Mr W. Prudhoe. : North-east Ward—Messrs W. H. Cooper and Henry Thomson. South-east Ward—Mr W. I. Ballinger, Dr W. E. Hacon and Mr W. Thomson. South-west Ward —Mr George Calder and Dr W. H. Symes. Richmond Ward—Messrs W. Langford and H. Y. Widdowson. Mr Prudhoe has been declared duly elected for the North-west Ward. A poll for the election of one candidate for the following wards will take place on ■ Sept. 10. The polling places will be as ; follows: North-east Ward—Orange Hall, Wor-i cester street east. 3 South-east Ward —St John’s schoolroom.; South-west Ward—St Michael’s school-; room. Richmond Ward—Foresters’Hall, Vogel , street. \ Mr Eden George was yesterday nomi--nated to fill the extraordinary vacancy on the City Council, caused by the resignation by Mr E. Humphreys of his seat for the North-west Ward. Messrs G. Fletcher and J. V. Ross were his nominators. Mr George wishes it to be understood that on Mr Humphreys’ return to Christchurch, he (Mr George) will retire in Mr Humphreys’ favour, as he recognises the necessity for the City having as representatives such gentlemen as Mr Humphreys. - Nominations for the three vacancies on the Sydenham Borough Council, caused by the retirement by rotation of Councillors E. M. Taylor, W. Jacques and John Brown, closed at noon yesterday, when the gentlemen named and Messrs B. E. Muffet, John Forest and T. E. Taylor were nominated. The election takes place on Sept. 10. LYTTELTON. Yesterday Messrs J. Joyce, J. T. Brice, J. Thompson and C. W. Chambers were nominated for the three vacant seats on this Council. An election will take place on Sept. 10. ASHBURTON. Nominations for three vacancies on the Ashburton Borough Council were due yesterday. Only one candidate, Mr H. G. Flower, was nominated, and he was declared elected.
