J Boston. The steamer Fakeha sighted the ship •'Jessie Readman, bound from Dunedin to Wellington, of Banka Peninsula yesterday forenoon. Yesterday there were five steamers at the various wharves, whose aggregate tonnage amounted to 16,197 tons. The barque Clan M'Leod ia ready to proceed to Wellington, and will take advantage of the first change of wind to the southward to put to sea. The barque Ashmore, loading produce for the New Zealand Shipping Company for London, is just about a full ship, and -will be ready for sea in a day or two. The Melbourne centreboard yacht Sylph, which measures 25ft over all, 23ft on keel, and has won a few races as one of the St Hilda Yacht Club, finished an interesting but boisterous cruise from Melbourne to Sydney a few days ago. The Sylph was built several years ago by Mr G.<H. Knight for his own pleasure, and though he was never a quarter of a mile outside Port Phillip Heads in his life before he started on this trip, he brought his frail craft round during a period of most trying weather. A sailing vessel, the Kinkoro, arrived at Melbourne last week with a solid freight, having no leas than 2700 tons dead weight of steel rails. She made a good passage out from Maryport, Cumberland, of ninety days. Shaw, Savill and Albion Company’s cargo steamer Fakeha arrived in Fort yesterday forenoon from Dunedin. She is still in command of Captain Scotland, and has 700 tons of merchandise to discharge at this port. Her cargo of 50,000 sheep and other produce will be gathered up all around New Zealand, for from Lyttelton she proceeds to Wellington, thence to Auckland, and then around the North Cape to Waitara, thence to Timaru, finally returning to Lyttelton, where she completes her loading. The ship Zealandia was towed to sea early yesterday morning. She is hound to Timaru to load produce for London. As a strong north-west wind was blowing off the Heads she should make a good run to the southern port. The steamer Talune arrived in Fort yesterday from Melbourne, vid, Hobart and - southern ports. She left Melbourne at 2.45 p.m. on August 25, cleared the Heads at 6.50 p.m. and reached Hobart at 5.40 a.m. on August 27. She left again same day, and reached Bluff at 6 a.m. on August 31. She called at Dunedin, and arrived as above. Fine weather was fallen ia with to Dunedin, thence strong northerly winds to Fort. She proceeded north yesterday evening. The steamer Takapuna arrived from Manukau and way ports yesterday at 6.30 a,iTi She left Manukau at 5 p.m. on August 31, Taranaki at 8 a.m. on the following day and Wellington at 3 p.m. on Wednesday.
