LINWOOD v. TEMUKA, The annual match between these Clubs was plajed at Lancaster Park yesterday. Hobbs kicked off, but good passing carried the ball to Linwood’o twenty-five. Daniels relieved the pressure by a timely kick into touch. The game was in the centre for some time, and then Gordon got the ball from a scrimmage, passed it to Arthur Price, who in . turn sent it to Hobbs, who transferred it to Albert Price, enabling him to draw first blood for Lin wood. No goal resulted, however. After a series of fast rushes up and down, Anderson got away and passed all the Linwood backs, but a certain score was saved by Hobbs kicking into touch-ln-goal. After numerous scrimmages in Linwood’s twenty-five Gordon got away from the scrimmage and passed out to Irvine, who dribbled past the Temuka backs, picked up and ran in, the kick again being a failure. After give-and-take play Hobbs got a mark under the posts, but no goal was kicked. Half-time was then called; Linwood two points, Temuka nil.

In the second spell Linwood was kept on the defensive until Stapleton got away and carried the ball well into Temuka’o territory. Irvine got in from the line-out, but the kick was resultless. Stapleton then got a mark. Crosbie took the kick and made a good though fruitless attempt at goal. Linwood maintained aggressive tactics, and Stapletod potted a goal, which, however, was disallowed. Prom a neat bit of passing among the Linwood backs, Hobbs got over, and, after a maul, succeeded in gaining a try, converting it himself. - After the kick-off, Linwood was penned, and for a breach of rules Temuka was awarded’ a free ' kick, which Goldsmith, by a splendid kickj' converted. Temuka—Two points, Liuwood six. Prom a loose rush, Anderson scored a try, which Goldsmith converted. No side was then called. Linwood six points, Temuka five points, leaving Linwood winners by the bare margin of one point. The game was well contested, and played in the most friendly spirit. For the winners, Gordon, Hobbs, Price (2) and Daniels played well in the back division, while in the forward Stapleton, Irvine, Darton and Evans were the most conpicuous. Por Temuka, Velvin and Storey, among the backs, and Anderson (captain) and Goldsmith in the forwards, were the most prominent.
