[Received August 12, at 8 p.m.] The Times discredits the statement that Russia will prohibit the export of wheat, and believes that the order will apply only to rye. The M'lvo? Steamship Company, for which three quarters of a million capital was asked, has not been a success. Tho public subscribed only forty thousand, and M‘lvors fifty thousand. The contracts are alleged to be informal, and the money is being returned to the subscribers. Tho Chamber of Commerce announces that a syndicate in tho Argentine is subscribing the entire capital for the new National Bank, on condition that the Government does not meddle with its working. The Treasurer’s motion, to advance £200,000 to the Bank ot Yan Diemen’s Laud provided tho shareholders subscribe £50,000, which they have done, has been postponed pending negotiations which are proceeding with the several Banks. The agricultural returns, collected along with the census, show an average decrease in tho yield of wheat of five bushels per acre for the year ending March 30. The Colony produces three bushels per head of population, and consumes six busueis and a half. Other cereals are about up to tho average, maize alone showing a slight increase. MELBOURNE, August 12. The prospectus is issued of a Mutual Store. It contemplates supplying New Zealand fish to this market.
