FOOTBALL.

In response to an invitatipa;from the Rugby Union Selection Committee, a wellattended meeting of footballers was held on Tuesday evening at the Commercial; Hotel, to make arrangements for practices' in view of the forthcoming interprovincial matches against Wellington and Otago*! After fully discussing the matter, it wag; decided to hold practices on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, on the North Park* commencing at 4.45 p.m., while Wednesday and Friday evenings will he devoted, to practice under cover, and for this purpose the upstairs portion of the large; building at the rear of the premises-io-i Hereford street, lately occupied by. Messrs R. Wilkin and Co., has been secured from 8 to 9.30 p.m! All footballers taking part in trial matches are- expected; to attendthese practices. This' afternoon, at 4.80 the following team will play all comers at the North Park Turton, Cresswell,. Marshall, Lee, Ward, Speight, Hawkes, Evans, A. and L. Ebert, Humphreys* Samuels, Thacker, Laurie and Hammond. Colours, red and black. The following trial teams have been, selected to play in Saturday’s match, at 3 p.m., on Lancaster Park Probables l (red and black) Wilson, G. Horner, Marshall, Balch, Gordon, Ward, Cow, A. and L. Ebert, Evans, Garrard, Thacker* Humphreys, J. Horner and J. Laurie. Possibles (colours) —Turton, Uru, Oressweu, Craddock, Forbes, F. The probable team has been chosen by the Rugby Union Selection Committee, and by their permission Messrs Weekes, Garrard, and Hawkes were entrusted with the selection of the possibles.
