ROAD BOARDS.

HEATHCOTE. This Board met on Thursday; present —Mr E. Carry (Chairman) and Messrs A. M. Ollivier, W. Beer, E. J. Palmer, H. B. Kirk, F. Turvey and J. Kerr.—The receipts for the month were reported to be £4Ol 10a 9d.—- Messrs M'Causland and Withell interviewed the Board with regard to the footpath in front of their places. The Chairman and Mr Beer were asked to inspect and report.—Mr Evans, poundkeeper, attended with regard to Mrs Knight’s complaint as to the impounding of her horses. After hearing his statement, it was resolved to inform Mrs Knight that the Board could not interfere.—Letters were read—From Mr Thomas Andrews, stating that there was no truth in the rumour that had been circulated that certain persons connected with tha Board were interested in the stone-breaker working for the Board. —From Mr C. W. Comer, forwarding resolutions passed at the Conference of Chairmen of Eoad Boards. After some discussion it was resolved—" That the Board could only agree to the second resolution, viz., ‘ That the Selwyn County Council be requested to allocate subsidies and other moneys among the Eoad Boards, upon the principle that suburban Boards are entitled to a larger proportion than outside Boards, in order that they may in some measure be compensated for the undue demands made upon them in connection with tho maintenance of main roads.”— From Mr W. Beef, forwarding a resolution passed at a meeting held on August 4. The resolution was as follows :—“ That after the explanation made by tbe Board this meeting has no confidence in the Board, with tha exception of Mr Beer.” The letter was received.—The Chairman was requested to sign an advertisement that all rates nob paid before Sept. 10 would be sued for, and that any person wishing an extension of time must make application to the Board in writing before Sept. 3.—After passing accounts the meeting closed. TAI TAPU. The ordinary meeting was held on Friday; present—Mr T. M'Cartuey (Chairman), and Messrs Gilmour and Lsatbam. —Mr Gould waited on tbe Board relative to the necessity of deepening about fortyseven chains of the main drain from the willows at Dunsford’s boundary road. He offered to pay part of the cost. The Board decided that as the work would confer very little, if any, benefit on the ratepayers iu the district, Mr Gould be informed that the Board cannot pay anything towards the cost, bub should Mr Barnett, through whose land part of the drain extends, raise no objection to the work, the Board would, if desirable, supervise its carrying out.—lb was resolved that tenders be invited to quarry and break three hundred and fifty yards of stone at Ahuriri quarry, and one hundred and fifty yards at Esserve 1107.—1 t was resolved—“ That if the contractor for forming Graycliffo road does not start work on his contract within a fortnight, it be offered to tho next tenderer.”—A general road rate of three-fourths of a penny in the £, and a Waimakariri river rate of five-sixty-fourths of a penny in the £ were struck. EICCAETON. The ordinary meeting of this Board was held on Monday ; present—Mr Hall (Chairman), and Messrs Feather, Boag aud Jacksou. Tbo following correspondence was read : —From Mr W. B. Eobinson, on behalf of several ratepayers on tbe Harewood road, pointing out the necessity for a gas-lamp on tbe Harewood road near the Wesleyan chapel. Tbe Board admitted the necessity for this lamp, and it was resolved to comply with Mr Kobinson’s request.—Prom tbe Clerk to tbe Avon Eoad Board asking if this Board would contribute a portion of the cost of a footpath ou the North road near Belfast, and quoting the estimated cost. This being a boundary road, it was decided to contribute cue-half the cost of the path,—Prom the Secretary Canterbury Saleyards Company, enclosing cheque for neb proceeds of stock sold in the Addington pound for the six months ended Juue 30.—Prom tbesame, pointing out that the Addiugtou pound was a financial loss to the Company, and asking the Board to take over its control and management at a rental, or in such other way as the Board might deem desirable. It was resolved to reply that the Board regretted nob being able to comply with the Company’s request.— From Mr Washbourne, asking the Board to clean out the drain on the Sawyers’ Arms road. It was resolved to comply with the request.—A petition was received from eleven ratepayers, asking the Board to form a path ou the boundary road at Merivale. Tha Board admitted the necessity for the work, and it was resolved to reply that the St Albans Borough Council (under whose control the boundary road is) had been communicated with on tho subject.—lt was resolved—“ That a gas lamp be erected at the corner of the park, near tho Fendalton bridge.”—The consideration of the formation of a footpath on the Wairarapa road was deferred.—lt was decided to serve notices to immediately clear tho gorse off a portion of Wright’s road. OXFORD. This Board held its ordinary meeting on Wednesday, when all the members were present, except Mr Dobson, who was in

Consideration of tho matter was deterred uili Mr Dobson’s return. —Mr A; Baxter requested permission to break up road from M’Jarrow’s to main road. The application was granted.—A good deal of correspondence of minor importance was dealt with. —The following tenders for the View Hill water-race were accepted:—First section, K. Grimwood, £3O; second section, J. Grirawood, £23 ss. For contract No. 292, the tender of A. Gibbs, £3, was accepted; No. 293, J. Fisher £3 14s; No. 294, Martin Dally £4 19s.—The Finance report showed: Land fund account, credit, £359; general account, debit, £204 9s 6d; Eyre water-race, debit, £26 19s 4d; bank balance, credit, £127 Us 2d. Accounts to the amount of £ll3 5s 6 d were passed for payment. EYRBTON. The monthly meeting was held on Monday ; present—Mr Evans (Chairman) and Messrs Chapman, Milne, Hopkins and Pashby. A letter was read from the Hospital Board requesting payment of levy for 1891 and 1892. It was resolved that the amount should be paid as soon as the Board is in funds.—The Water-race Committee wrote stating that it could not increase the number of the Committee beyond that already agreed upon.—lt was resolved that a general rate of |d in the £ bo struck.—Mr Thomas Nicholls requested the Board to clean out tho drain fronting his land, on the usual terms. The proposal was agreed to.—Mr George Smith requested the Board to supply some old timber to put a bridge over the drain cut by the Board, and which fronted his property. The application was referred to the Surveyor. Messrs Pashby and Milne reported on the condition of the Eyre Reserve.—Accounts amounting to £261 0a 5d were passed for payment. SOUTH MALVERN. The monthly meeting of this Board was held at the office on Wednesday; present —Mr Rutherford (Chairman), and Messrs Leemiag, Jesso Prestidge, jun., and W. Eitchell.—After the ordinary business was over, the Chairman of the South Malvern Domain Board interviewed the Board, and said that there was too much water turned into the Domain by the last contract let by the Board to deepen a ditch. It was arranged to inspect the locality.—A number of contracts were let, and instructions were given to have certain work done.— Accounts were passed for payment, amounting to £lB 16s lid. EAST MALVEEN. Tha monthly meeting of this Board was held at the office on Tuesday; present — Messrs Fraser (Chairman), Jebson, jun,, Scarlett, Searle and Bull.—Correspondence was read—From Mr John Ferguson, asking to be allowed to put in an open crossing, to take water across the load at his place. The application was granted.—From Mr John Guy, asking the Board to make certain improvements at his place. It was agreed that the work should be carried out.—From Mr Peter Hansen, asking the Board to make a road to his place. The Clerk was directed to report.—From the Malvern Eoad Board, saying that it had no objection to the control of the boundary road being placed in the hands of this Board.—A number of contracts were let.
