The steamer Brunner arrived in Port yesterday morning from Westport, vi& intermediate ports, with a full load of coal. She left Westport on August 1, Nelson on August 8, and Wellington at 11 a.m. on August 9, and arrived in Port early yesterday morning, having experienced fins weather along the coast. The work of repairing and re-decking the Screw-pile Jetty is now complete, and yesterday a gang of platelayers, made a start to put down the railway lines, so that in a very short space of time the passenger steamers will he able to resume use of the wharf. The new decking is vastly superior to the old, the planks having been placed close together. Mr Derbidge and his staff are now engaged in extending the . low-level breastwork at the far side of the Ocean Steamers’ Wharf. THE SHIP ZEALAND!!. Yesterday afternoon a red flag displayed from the south yardarm of the signal staff denoted that a square-rigged ship was approaching the land, and shortly afterwards the Zealandia's numbers, under the house flftg of Shaw, Savill and Albion Company, were hoisted. After the vessel reached the anchorage, which she did at about 6 p.m., having been towed from about twelve miles outside the Heads, she was boarded by Dr T. O. Guthrie, health officer of the port, the Customs representatives, and Mr Hodgson, representing the agents, Messrs Edwards, Bennett and Co. A clean bill of health was at once granted the vessel, as no sickness prevailed on board. The Zealandia has just completed a most uneventful passage of ninety-three days, which must be considered a fair, average run, and which has been protracted somewhat on account of the prevalence of light airs and calms; for gales, even in the stormy Southern Ocean, nave been conspicuous by their entire absence. She comes into Port under the command of Captain Bate, who is upon his first voyage as commander to Lyttelton, although he is not a stranger here. Six years ago he visited Lyttelton as chief officer of the vessel he now commands, and since then he has had charge of the barque Langstone. Captain Bates brings his charge into port in splendid condition. The four-masted ship General Gordon, hound from London to Sydney, was spoken in 42£deg south and 30-}deg east, and the Zealandia also spoke a large fleet of homeward bound ships on the line. Captain Bate associated with him as officers, Mr Cousins ohief, Mr Saunders second and Mr Morley third. The vessel brings a large cargo of general merchandise, and comas consigned to Messrs Edwards, Bennett and Co., who insert the usual notice to consignees elsewhere. She will bo berthed this afternoon. TBLEGEAPH NOTICE BOAED. Abuttals. August 10; Wellington, 7 n.m.. Duke of Sutherland, from Wanganui; Bluff, 3 p.m., Wairarapa, from Melbourne, with English mail.
