Croydon Lass (Captain Moore), Annie Wilson (Captain Murray). 6; Clio (Captain Burns), Alert (Captain Tilley), Glencairn (Captain Palliser). 7. Tongariro (Captain Bone), Done (Captain Jenningi). The steamer Janet Nicoll arrived on Saturday afternoon from Westport with a

cargo of coal. She left the West Coast non on June 19 at 7 p.m., and experienced fine weather along the coast.

Yesterday afternoon the three-masted schooner Maile anchored in the stream. She comes into Port from Auckland, her port of registry, and has on board a full cargo of guano from Howland Island. The shipping of the Port of Lyttelton will have an extensive addition to its ranks to-day by the arrival of the New Zealand Shipping Company’s ship Otaki from Lmdon, after, a passage of 117 days; the Bankville, a barque of 1014 tons, from Launceston; and the barque Clifton, from Newcastle, with a cargo of coal. All these vessels were close to the Heads when our despatch left Lyttelton last night, and one of them —probably the Clifton—was signalled as standing in towards the harbour. There was very little wind outside, but assisted by the morning’s tide, they will all doubtless manage to fetch the port. The New Zealand Shipping Company’s R.M.S.S. Tongariro arrived in Fort yesterday from Waitara, to which port she had been sent to load a quantity of frozen meat. She has very little of her inward cargo now on board, as it was transhipped at Wellington to the coastal steamers. She loaded a quantity of frozen meat and other cargo at Wellington, and at Waitara 2000 quarters of beef and 370 carcases of mutton were taken on board. At this place the steamer —being the first passenger boat of anything like her size that had visited the roadstead—created considerable interest amongst the residents who, one and all, paid her a visit of inspection. The meat was brought off in lighters, towed by a steam tug, and as the weather was good rapid progress was made with the work of taking it in. She remains here until July 11, when she takes her departure for Rio de Janeiro and London.

Elsewhere in this issue will be found a cablegram noting the arrival in London of the ship Wellington from Lyttelton. Those who are more intimately connected with shipping, will remember that the Wellington left within a few days of the date of the departure of the fine ships Coriolauus and Greta, and as all three were noted clippers, speculation was rife as to which would be reported at London first. Each vessel had hosts of friends, to use a sporting phrase, but as the performances of the Wellington were perhaps better known in Lyttelton than those of the other ,two boats she was accorded the pride of place. However, the confidence of the " knowing ones ” was misplaced, for the well-known New Zealand trader has been the last to report. SHIPPING TELEGRAMS. Auckland, June 20.
