The steamer Talune will bo placed in the graving dock to-day. The R.M.S.S. Kaikoura, of the New Zealand Shipping Company’s fleet, arrived in Port late on Saturday night from Port Chalmers. The personnel of her officers is the same as when she last visited this port. She completes her loading here, and sails on June 13 for Rio de Janeiro and London. Mr C. W. Turner’s brig Rio Loge, in command of Captain Lovett, arrived in Port on Saturday afternoon from Newcastle, with a cargo of coal. She left the New South Wales port on May 17, with a light north-west wind, which hauled into the north-east and then to the south and south-west on the following day. Southerly winds, with fine weather, continued across towards the New Zealand coast, and at 5.30 p.m. on May 27 the Brothers were sighted. The wind was then blowing fresh from the south and south-west, but at midnight it suddenly shifted to south-east and blew hard, raising a cross, choppy sea, and lasted for twenty-four hours, during which the vessel was hove-to under lower topsails. Towards daylight on the next day it moderated, and fine weather continued to arrival. The brig comes into Port in that neat and tidy appearance which is characteristic of her genial skipper. The Shaw, Savill and Albion Company’s E.M.S.S. Tainui left the wharf early on Saturday morning for and anchored in the stream to await mails &o. As the Rotorua, with the northern portion, did not reach Lyttelton till 6 p.m., the direct liner was later in getting away than usual, and it was 8 p.m. before she finally weighed anchor. The steamer Invercargill, which arrived in Port yesterday, reports having sighted on the coast the four-masted ship Hinemoa, bound from Melbourne to this port. The Hinemoa should reach, port either to-day or to-morrow. > Yesterday afternoon the barque Warwickshire arrived in Port from Adelaide, after a fine-weather passage of sixteen days. She comes to load wheat for the Home market, on account of Messrs Priedlander Bros., to whom she was chartered by Messrs Cuff and Graham. She is a vessel of 647 tons, and was built at Liverpool in 1862 by T. Vernon and Son. Her present owners are Messrs W, J. Myers, Son and Co., of Liverpool. Her dimensions are 179 ft 9in long, 29ffc beam and 18ft Sin depth of hold. During the past few days the Port has lost that deserted appearance which was so noticeable along the wharves a few weeks ago. Instead of there being but one deepsea vessel in Port there are several. On Saturday, the Brambletye was engaged landing her coal. She is set down to leave this month for London, loading on account of the New Zealand Shipping Company. The American barque Gleneida, loading produce for London, is rapidly getting down in the water, and a few more good day’s work will make her a full ship. Besides the Hinemoa, which has been sighted on the coast, we may expect to see the Otaki, from London, and the Catalina, from Brisbane, in Port towards the end of the present week. She experienced variable winds and dull weather up to 8 p,m. on May 30, when a strong north-west gale with heavy sea was met with, lasting till passing the Solandors at 9 a.m. to-day.
