MORRIS-TUBE SHOOTING.
CHEISTOHDBCH EIFLES. A series of two competitions was fired at the Volunteer range in the Drillshed on Thursday and Saturday last, for a trophy presented by Sergeant Cresswell. Each competition was fired at two ranges—2oo yards and 300 yards. Conditions, seven shots at each range, without sighting shot; Snider rifles to he used as served out to the Company. The winner turned up in Private Askew, who made 110 from scratch. About thirty men competed. The following were the principal scorers:—Private Askew (scr), 110; Private Treweek (scr), 106; Private Scott (scr), 105; Private Batchelor (acr), 103; Private Foster (scr), 102 j Private Murphy (10), 101; Sergeant Sandford (scr),9B; Private Robinson (scr), 98. With regard to the reported lowering of the record (324) recently established by the Christchurch Rifles, omission was made of the fact that the Alpha Club were allowed the advantage of a sighting shot, a considerable handicap which . |ihe Christchurch. Rifles were not given. A competition at Morris-tuhe shooting for a very handsome marble clock commenced last evening, at Kent’s range. Forty competitors entered. The prize will be won by the competitor making the highest number of points during the competition, which will he continued until the fifteen points required have been scored. Five points are allowed to the highest scorer each night, four for the second highest, three for the third, two for the fourth, and one for the fifth The following made thirty-five (the highest possible) last night: Messrs Lowry, Harrison, Lukey, Hastie, Topliss, Yoyle, Turpin, Fitch, Sfcace, and Allison. The ties will be fired off on Wednesday evening, when those who were not able to fire last night can do so. The competition will bo continued next Monday night.
