MIDLAND RAILWAY.

MONSTEE PUBLIC MEETING. [Per Press Association.] NELSON, July 28. A monster public meeting was held this evening in reference to the Midland Bail-; way, and the delay in commencing work at Belgrovc. Eesolutions were passed thanking the Government for having insisted on the Company adhering to the terms of the contract, and urging that they be held to the strict performance of the same, and demanding that the Company shall proceed with the Bel grove section forthwith. Also, calling on the members of the Legislature to do all in their power to compel the immediate undertaking of such section, and prevent alteration being made in the contract. Complaints were made that land was being locked up, and settlement stopped in consequence of the Company not going on with the work as provided for, and a’ very earnest and nnmistakeahle expression of opinion was given. After the resolutions were carried, Mr Fell read a telegram from Mr Wilson,. Engineer of the Company, stating that if the surveys are completed as hoped, the, contract will be let in October.
