A meeting of the delegates to the Association was held at the Empire Hotel at 8 p.m. yesterday. There was a moderate attendance, Mr J. S. Williams in the chair. The Greymouth Trotting Club wrote joining the Association, and enclosing their programme, already passed by the Association* The North Canterbury Jockey Club wrote sending a programme, which was passed by the meeting. The Opunake Club wrote, stating that as they had no trotting intheirprogrammes, it was useless for them to affiliate with the Association.

The Porirua Jockey Club wrote, stating that they were not desirous of joining the Association, they “ having left it to the Metropolitan Club at Wellington.” The Taieri Racing Club wrote, asking for the Association’s rules, and stating that they would consider the advisability of joining the Association. A letter was read from the Secretary of the Dunedin Jockey Club, in answer to the Association’s circular-letter of February last, stating that tho Club was disposed to assist the Association in forming such rules, but as a Metropolitan Club under New Zealand rules, they could not give up their supreme authority. In view of the meeting to be held on the first Thursday in May they asked the following questions:— (1) Is it intended that Metropolitan Clubs, who hold supreme authority under the New Zealand rules of racing, and who run trotting races with the other races in the programmes, should submit their programmes to the proposed New Zealand Trotting Association ? (2) Is it intended that country Clubs who run trotting races with the other races in their programmes, and whose programmes (according to the New Zealand rules of racing) be passed by the Metropolitan Club of their district, should again submit such programmes to the proposed New Zealand Trotting Association ?

On receipt of the Association’s reply the Club would consider the _ proposed rules, and recommended several important alterations. In the meantime they would recommend the following additions to them:—(l) Notwithstanding anything in these rules hereinbefore contained, it shall not be necessary for any Metropolitan Club, who run under the New Zealand rules guiding flat, hurdle, and steeplechase racing, to submit their programmes to this Association, provided such Metropolitan Club advertise that the trotting races in their programmes will be run under the rules of the New Zealand Trotting Association. (2) Notwithstanding anything in these rules hereinbefore contained, it shall not be necessary for country Clubs whose programmes have been approved by the Metropolitan Club of their district, to again submit the same to this Association provided that such Club advertise that the trotting races in their programmes will be run under the rules of the New Zealand Trotting Association. It was decided, on the vote of the Association, to reply "no” to the first question, and to the second, “ That the Metropolitan Clubs who belong to the New Zealand Trotting Association be not required to submit their programmes to the Association, and that such Metropolitan Clubs be empowered to pass all trotting events and programmes in their Provincial districts, provided the Clubs have paid their fees in accordance with the rules of the Association.” The Secretary stated that the programme for the Heathcofce Meeting on May 24 had been sent to Wellington on April 3, and, in spite of several requests for jts approval, was still in the hands of the Clerk of the E.M. Court at Christchurch. On the motion of Mr Mace, seconded by Mr Piper, it was resolved—“Thatthose present form a Sub - Committee to go thoroughly into the present system of granting totalisator licenses.” The meeting then adjourned.
