PRESENTATIONS.

MR J. B. WILLIAMS. A number o! the friends of Mr J. B. Williams, Captain of Wo. 3 Company Queen’s Cadets, who is about to leave the Colony for Johannesburg, met at the Commercial Hotel last night to bid him farewell. Mr Kincaid was in the chair, and there was a large attendance. The Chairman presented Mr Williams with a handsome gold chain, subscribed for by hia friends, and read an address from the members and employees of the firm of Flaisted and Co., and other friends, who expressed their regret at Mr Williams leaving, their admiration for the integrity, manliness and honour which had marked his business transactions,, their appreciation, of his kindliness and readiness to help his weaker brother el. He was indeed a friend who hadbeen tried and not found wanting. One of them objects in asking him to meet them-wraa- to present him with a small memento, which might remind him of the friends ho hod left in Christchurch. Mr Williams responded in suitable terms*

The following toasts were honoured.:— "The Queen;” ‘'Mr Williams," Messrs Hoisted, Satchell and Drayton spoke in support of the toast ; “ The Queen’s Cadets,” proposed by Mr Marshall, responded to by Lieutenant Hantlej “Commerce,” proposed, by Mr Baraht, responded to by Mr Chapped; “The Guests,” proposed by Mr Phillips; responded to by Mr Satchell; “The Ladies,” proposed by Mr Marshall, and. responded to by Mr Barrett; and “ThePress*” During the evening- songs and recitations were given by Messrs Barrett, Baugh, Drayton, Phillips, Brown, Marshall, and Piaisted; Mr Satchell played the. aecompammente in very good style.
