THE LAND.
[Pica Press Association.] WELLINGTO N, April 28. The land return for the year ending March 31, has just been completed. It shows a total of 4,130,966 acres taken up, and 2325 acres selected, as against 2,273,183 acres taken up and 282,716 acres selected for the previous year. The return is made up as follows: —Land taken up for cash, 51,743 acres; deferred payment, 41,235 ; perpetual lease, 238,583; small areas, 50 ; agricultural lease, 53; village settlement on deferred payment, 810; village homestead special settlement, 2/0; special settlement, 4873 ; pastoral lease, 3,731,2e8; small grazing runs, 60,340; homesteads, 1751; land selected for cash, 787 acres; deferred payment, 304; perpetual lease, 830; small areas, 2; agricultural lease, 1; village settlement, 1; deferred payment, ■75 j Yiilsgdssttienieat special settlements.
20 j special settlements, 45; pastoral lease, 207; small grazing runs, 35 ; homestead, 19.
