' ' CHRISTCHURCH. 1 Saturday, April 26. (Before E. Beetham, Esq., E.M., and E. Westenra, Esq.) DaxTNmENNESS.—EIIen Thompson, who was too ill to appear, was charged with helpless drunkenness, and was remanded for seven days’ medical treatment.—A first offender, arrested in Gloucester street, was fined ss, or forty-eight hours’ imprisonment in default.—William Heenan, arrested in Hereford street, was mulcted in a similar penalty. Horse-stealing. —George White, alias Clifford, was charged on remand with stealing a chestnut gelding, Eed Eobin, from John Shaw, at Timaru; also, a saddle and bridle and a waterproof' coat, of a total value" of .£2l ss, from the same owner. George Augustus West, telegraph clerk, was with Shaw when accused came to hire a horse on April 11,1889. He said he was going about three miles up the Temuka river, and would be away about three days. He- borrowed a brown mackintosh from Mr Shaw before he went. Never saw accused or the horse again. Inspector Pender said that they next heard that the horse had been sold at Oamara. Accused was remanded to appear at Timaru on April 30.
