AMBERLEY.
MEETING OF PARISHIONERS. A general meeting of the parishioners was held at the Sunday Schoolroom, Amberley, on Wednesday afternoon, for the purpose of considering what steps should be taken to rebuild the Church of the Holy Innocents, wrecked by the recent gale; and also for the purpose of electing a Parishioners* Warden in the place of Mr C. W. Purchas, who is leaving the district. Mr Purchas, in tendering his resignation, begged to submit the name of Mr A. H. Norman as his successor, which was seconded by Captain Brown, and carried unanimously. The Chairman (Rev J. Sheldon) having commented on the valuable services of tba late Warden, a hearty vote of thanks was proposed by Mr J. Stanton to Mr Purchas; and seconded by Mr Hadler, carried unanimously, and suitably acknowledged by Mr Purchas in a few feeling Yofda, expressing regret at his severance from the church of the district.
The report of the architect who inspected the ddbris of the church having been read, it was proposed by Captain Browne—" That immediate stops be taken for the re-erection of the church, and that energetic measures be at once adopted for collecting money for this laudible and that the following gentlemen »■— appointed a Committee to superintend tuwork :—Messrs F. Courage, Of. B. Must,— Holderness and the Churchwardens." This was seconded by Mr Courage, who stated that he would give a donation of JESO, and supplement it if necessary, giving in proportion to the value of his property in the locality—(applause)—deeming it the duty and privilege of every Protestant in the diocese to contribute towards the re-building of the sacred edifice. It was proposed by Mr G. Cjampton, and seconded by Mr Courage-" That the materials of the church npw on the ground should not be disposed ol until the contract for the re-erection 6f the building be signed." The meeting then adjourned.
