The Anglican Synod nominated the Bev Canon William S. Smith, Principal of St Aiden’a College (theological), Birkenhead, the Bev Glynn Moate, Principal of Bidley Hall, Oxford, and Canon Chevasse, Oxford, for the Primacy of Australia. The Bishops of New South Wales will select two from these, then the Bishops of the whole of Australia and Tasmania will make their final selection. Among the names mentioned for the Primacy were the Bishop of Manchester, Bishop of Truro, Bishop of Adelaide, Archdeacon Farrar (Westminster), and Archdeacon Long of Auckland. The proceedings are reported to have been of a rather stormy nature.
