CONCERT AT LYTTELTON .

The members of the Lyttelton Presbyterian Church have every reason to be thankful for the success of their annual soiree and concert, which was held in the Oddfellows' Hall on Friday. Shortly after six o’clock a large number sat down to tea, the tables being presided over by several of the ladies of the congregation. After ample justice had been done the many good things provided, the tables were cleared, and the second portion of the evening's jollification was indulged in. A splendid programme of vocal and instrumental music had been prepared, and Mias O’Brien, Messrs Rearden and Oakey opened proceedings with a selection upon the piano and stringed instruments. A glee class of fourteen voices, composed almost entirely of members of the church, rendered “ Let the Hills Resound," “ The Blacksmith," and “ Hail, Smiling Morn," in capital style, the voices blending together very nicely. Mrs Murdoch contributed “ A Dream Within a Dream,” and “On the Banks of Allan Water,” both of which were encored. Mrs Gilmore and Miss Watson succeeded right well in their duet “ The Bonnie, Bonnie Broom," while Mr M'Lean's splendid bass voice was heard to advantage in “ Rest, Warrior, Rest,” and received an encore. Miss Hill’s, and Miss Cran’s piano solos were both well rendered, the former being re-demanded by the audience. Mrs Gilmore contributed “ Milly’s Faith ” in really capital style, and was encored, as was also Mrs Crisp in her song “ The Great City." “ The Battle of Stirling," by Mr Stevenson, was well received and encored, as also was Mrs Stinson’s song, “My Own New Zealand Home." Addresses by Revs Adamson, of Lincoln, and G. Bond, of Lyttelton, with a reply from the Chairman, the Rev J. Hill, concluded a most enjoyable evening’s amusement. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the ladies and gentlemen who performed.
