COURTENAY HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

This Society held its annual show in the Orange Hall, Courtenay, on Tuesday. The weather was fine, the attendance fair, and the exhibits, on the whole, well up to the average, although there was a falling off of pot plants, which sign- may be taken that more attention is given to the outdoor cultivation of flowers. The collection of fruit was really good, and taking into account the backward season, might be ranked as first-class. There were but two exhibits of apples from last year, both of which, as keeping apples, were good and sound; but those of Mr Robertson, to all appearance, were the best, and they were decidedly the most attractive. But the judges thought differently, and awarded Mr Moore the first prize. The vegetables, from first to last, could not be excelled; and if the exhibits were at the Horticultural Show in Christchurch, they would have undoubtedly taken honours.
