Groceries, &e. TO the uninitiated.no doubt.it is a matter of wonderment why there are so many Tea Shops, Tea Merchants, and Tea Hawkers; and ■why yonr grocer is always anxious to sell you a pound of Tea in preference to a pound of Sugar. Of course the simple answer of many is no doubt that there is a better profit on Tea; but then, again. Why is there a better profit on Tea than Sugar ? Our answer is, which In the main will be found correct, that a.largo portion of the general public are absolutely unable to determine a Good Tea from an inferior one. Of course, we do not wish to infer but that anyone can tell whet they like from what they do not like, but that in many , instances a Tea'of medium quality is often pre- , ferred to a Tea of first-class merit, especially if it has a flavour the consumer has not )>eou accustomed to. And now that some of our finest Teas are grown in other countries as well as China, viz., India, Ceylon, Fiji, &c„ and that each one has a distinctive feature and quality, which to a certain extent takes a little time to acquire its taste before they are fully appreciated for their proper worth, - it is advisable to mix or blend a certain portion of these Teas with ordinary well-known China Teas—therefore it is easily understood why a Tea of firstclass quality with a flavour an individual has not been accustomed to may easily be confounded with a Tea of medium quality. This is well understood by many, hence tho cause of so many tea hawkers and vendors; in fact, we believe that some semiwholesale firms systematically sell interior Teas, but back them up by profuse advertisements almost to the extent of Yankee Patent Medicines, which answer almost as well as giving good value, and that the advertising cost one-fourth of the real value of tho Tea itself; but speaking of ourselves, wo absolutely guarantee to give Value for Money—perhaps bettor value than many others. Of course, we do not hope to please everyone, although we have had ten years of practical experience in the Blending of Teas, which has given as opportunities of gauging the public taste pretty accurately, - and even successfully, considering that wo have sold over 13,0001 b of Blended Tea, exclusive of boxes and half chests, within the last six mouths, which we have no hesitation .in saying is more than any Retail Shop has ever done in Christchnren he'ore.
