A building in China, in which the descendants of Confucius have resided for the past 2500 years, has just been destroyed by fire, A snowstorm in Siberia in 1827 drove all the herds of the Little Kirghiz horde to Saratow, and 280,000 horses, 30,000 oxen, 10,000 camels, and over 1,000,000 sheep died. As a result of the Committee presided over by Sir Evelyn Wood, which recently met at the War Office to report upon a repeating rifle which had been submitted to the military authorities, orders have been given for experiments to be made with the weapon, at as early a date as possible, by selected men of eighteen Infantry battalions at home stations.
