FIJIAN NEWS.

(Per s.s. Arawata, via Auckland.) [Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, April 20. The Arawata arrived this morning from Fiji. She brings no additional news from Tonga. Because of the breakdown of the s.s. Suva, tbe Governor of Fiji is detained in Tonga. The s.s. Suva came to Auckland in tow of the Arawata for repairs. The Arawata was again quarantined at Fiji. The revised estimates for Fiji have been presented and passed in the absence of the Governor. The actual revenue for 1886 was 3664,574 against .£76,688 for 1885. The expected revenue for 1887 is set down at £72,159, and the expenditure at £73,607. Of this only £3281 is to be expended on public works. The Hon Rupert Carrington has arrived as Private Secretary to his Excellency the Lieutenant-Governor. He proposes that the Colonists shall raise by public subscriptions—(l) A sum of money as a contribution to the Imperial Institute funds; (2) A sum of money to erect a local memorial of the Jubilee; (3) A sum _ of money to defray the cost of representing the Colony at the Melbourne Centennial Exhibition.
