THE FASTER ENCAMPMENT.

[By Telegraph.] [from our own correspondent."! NEW PLYMOUTH, April 21. The evening paper here has been strongly defending the Volunteers against the slanders circulated by some persons, and has published extracts from various papers, commenting on some, in which the food, cooking, and contractor, has come in for not undeserved censure. This, it appears, has displeased the contractor, for to-night’s paper contains the following significant paragraph ; “W. Bayley, contractor for supplying Volunteers with provisions at the late Easter encampment at Waiwahawaho, being very displeased with us for publishing extracts from outside papers as to what was thought of his catering, has stopped his subscription to the Taranaki Herald , and declares that he will never look at the paper again. We are very sorry for Mr Bayley, because it will be a greater loss to him, if he carries out his threat, than his penny a day for the paper will be to us, whilst we have such a large number of supporters who desire to know what is said of our place by outsiders. We fear we shall ever Incur the anger of Mr Bayley, but we cannot help that if we are to do our duty to the public.”
