AVERAGES FOE THE SEASON. The following averages are compiled from the match with the Australian Eleven, the Interprovincial Matches with Wellington and Otago, and the Midland (Christ, church) Club v. the Wellington Midland Club, and the Senior Challenge Cup matches. The averages of those players who have batted less than five times are omitted. Owing to the bowling analysis of the Park Trundlers in the second innings against the Addington Club never having been published, we are unable to fill in the blanks in the bowling table : BATTIKS AVERAGES.

THE ENGLISHMEN IN AUSTRALIA. Smokers v. Non-Smokers. This match was brought to a conclusion on March 21, and ended in a draw. Heavy rain fell shortly before noon, destroying all hope of the brilliant scoring being continued. With three wickets down for 302 runs the Smokers resumed their innings, but the remainder of the team only succeeded in putting together 54 runs, the total score being 356, or 447 behind their opponents. In their second innings the Smokers lost five wickets for 135 runs. Briggs just managed with his first innings’ contribution to beat Palmer for the best aggregate. An amusing incident occurred in this innings. There was a strong desire on the part of the players to secure the ball as a memento of the match. Scotton, after playing the last ball of the day, ran after and secured it. As the over had not been called, the umpire gave the batsman out for handling the ball. Shrewsbury and Bates won the prizes on the side of the Non-Smokers. The Non-Smokers batted only nine men, Barnes’ hand not being sufficiently well to enable him to take his place at the wickets.
