The wonderful growth of American newspapers is shown by a comparison between the directories published in 177 G and in the present year. The one contains in its sixteen small pages a list of thirty-seven newspapers which were published 110 years ago. The other is almost as large as an unabridged dictionary, and its 2000 pages contain the names of 14,1C6 newspapers and periodicals of all classes.
