Mr Copeland has given notice in the Assembly, for Wednesday next, of a motion expressing disapproval of the Government’s financial proposals. THE BULLI DISASTER, The Governor has received a telegram from London, conveying the Queen’s sympathy with the sufferers by the Bulli colliery disaster. [Received April IS. at 2.45 p.m.] A LONG SITTING. The Legislative Assembly sat all night until this morning. The debate on the Budget now stands adjourned till Wednesday, when Mr Copeland’s adverse motion will he discussed. ißpoaived April 18, at 1.15 a.m. J THE WANT OF CONFIDENCE MOTION. It is understood that the Government has accepted the motion which Mr Copeland will introduce on Wednesday next as a motion of want of confidence. TONGAN NEWS. The steamer Lubeck arrived to-day from Tonga. She brings news that H.M.S. Diamond had arrived there with Sir Charles Mitchell and Mr Justice Clark, of Fiji, on board. The enquiry into the recent outrages was still proceeding when the Lubeck left. Hanslip, a trader in the islands, who was accused by Mr Baker of participating in the outrages, was acquitted. The evidence of some of Baker’s witnesses was most damaging to that gentleman, some of them stating he had threatened their Jives if they did not give evidence against the Wesleyans. One of them had been told he should be shot directly H.M.S. Diamond left the Island. The Judge insisted that the witnesses must understand that no harm should come to them, by giving evidence freely. Two officers of the Diamond assisted at the trials. [Received April 16, at 1.15 am.] THE MAIL CONTRACT. Mr Gillies anticipates that the question of mail contracts will be settled at an early date. Mr Derham, the Postmaster-General, has instructed the Victorian Agent-General to bring matters to a climax, with a view of a reasonable compromise being effected. SHIPPING. MELBOURNE, April 15. Arrived, this morning—Steamship Mararoa, I Received April 15, at 10.15 p.m.] THE MARKETS. Wheat is selling at 3s 3d to 3s 8d ; oats, 2s to 2s 4d; maize, 3s 3d to 3s 9d.
