THE COMING SESSION.
INTENDED LEGISLATION. [Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, March 18. The Colonial Secretary intends to introduce into the Legislative Council, early in the forthcoming session, a Bill providing that tradesmen’s accounts under £2O, for goods sold and delivered, cannot be recovered in the Resident Magistrate’s Court. This step is taken as the Government consider that Magistrate’s Courts throughout the Colony are being used simply as machinery for collecting debts, and from a return they have had prepared it appears that the number of summonses issued in tbe Colony by Magistrates’ Courts for sums under £2O last year was 20,380; for sums ranging from £2O to £SO the number was 2325, and from £SO upwards, 674. Should the Bill become law, it is expected a great saving will be made in working these Courts.
Mr Ballance intends to introduce a Bill into the House of Representatives, giving effect to the report of the Old Soldiers’ and Volunteers’ Claims Commission.
